Help an indie author and post a  review. Reviews and Word of Mouth, are the two best contributors to a book's success. Some platforms do have specific rules for posting a review, and you are asked to be sure to follow them as listed. Spread The News......you can post a review on as many different platforms as you wish, regardless where the book was purchased.

Tips for Writing a Good Review

Keep it conversational: Most authors agree that a simple, friendly summary of your reaction—followed by what you liked or disliked about the pacing, characters, or writing style—makes the best beginner review. 

Avoid heavy spoilers: If you share key plot points, use Goodreads' spoiler tag or check the spoiler-hide option so you don't ruin the book for other readers. 

Focus on the experience: Share who you think would enjoy the book, how it made you feel, or what trope/vibe it matches.

Amazon Review Rules & Eligibility

Spending requirement: To post a review on Amazon, you generally need an active account that has made at least $50 in purchases on the platform using a valid credit or debit card (Prime or Kindle Unlimited memberships do not always count toward this threshold, though rules can vary). 

Step-by-Step Instructions

Find the book: Search for the title in the Amazon search bar, or go to Your Orders if you bought the book directly from your account. 

Open the review prompt: Scroll down to the Customer Reviews section on the product page and click Write a customer review (or click the review link next to the item in your order history). 

Choose a star rating: Select from 1 to 5 stars (5 stars is the highest). You may also see optional multiple-choice questions about the book's pacing, plot, or characters. 

Add a headline: Write a short, snappy title that summarizes your main takeaway or acts as a hook. 

Write your review: Keep it conversational (a few sentences to a couple of paragraphs). Mention what you liked or disliked, who the book is for, and your overall thoughts without giving away major spoilers.

Goodreads Steps to Post a Review

Find the book: Log into your Goodreads account and search for the book title using the top search bar. 

Go to the book page: Click on the book title to open its main page. 

Select a star rating: Below the book cover, click or tap the number of stars you want to award (from 1 to 5 stars, with options for quarter-star adjustments). 

Write your review: Click on "Write a review" (or locate the review text box) and type your thoughts. 

Publish: Click "Post" to make your review visible on the book's community page.

To post a reader review on Barnes & Noble, follow these steps: 

  • Log into your account: Go to Barnes & Noble and sign in to your user account (or click "My Account" to create a free account if you do not have one). Note that users must be at least 13 years old to hold an account or post reviews. 

Find the book: Use the site's search bar to look up the book you want to review and go to its product page (in either the books or NOOK store section). 

Open the review form: Scroll down the product page to the reviews section and click the "Write a Review" button (sometimes labeled as "Be The First To Review This Product").

Write your review:

  • Assign a star rating.
  • Provide a review headline and a detailed description of why you liked or disliked the title (keep it under 500 words, and focus on the book's content rather than pricing, URLs, or external commentary).
  • Optionally add photos, tags, spoiler warnings, or your reader type. 

Submit: Agree to the terms and conditions and click Submit to send your review for moderation.
